Homemade by Clodagh McKenna
I have always dreamed that I would create my own food magazine and when I was asked just two months ago if I would be interested in creating and being editor of a food magazine, I didn’t have to think twice about it.
I’ve lived in Paris, London, New York City, Italy, and gorgeous West Cork - and my pockets have become weighed down with notes on recipes from wonderful cooks; hidden osterias that serve the best homemade food; the hippest spots that shake the best cocktails and of course unforgettable food markets and much more. And so these years of traveling and note-taking will be poured into the best dish that I have ever made -
my magazine... In this first (launch) issue I’ve included all my homemade tips for the festive season. You are invited to our Christmas lunch, sparkling New Year’s Eve party, our glorious New Year’s Day brunch and the fireside suppers of the days in between.
I share my recipes, table-setting tips and menu planner. Ruth from Appassionata Flowers gives us her guide on how to create the perfect floral centerpiece. Michelle from the famed Cake Café will share with us her glamorous New Year’s Eve cupcake recipe.
My friend Lucy Clements, wine buyer and wine maker, will be sharing all her tips for a tipple to go along with your New Year’s party and for lunch on Christmas day.
I share with you my tips for making perfect homemade gifts; whether it’s chocolate truffles for your sophisticated aunty, flapjacks for the kids or hazelnut fudge to warm the heart of your boss.
You will meet all my talented friends and hear their inspiring stories - designer Eilis Boyle, cabaret performer Camille O’Sullivan and the Ferguson family producers on the Gubbeen farm in West Cork. Get creative with our thrifty tips for how to make your home more beautiful – the homemade way! Or get busy making your garden more edible with our special guide to growing vegetables with Michael Kelly.
My sister-in-law Erin gets cooking in the kitchen with her two little girls making homemade sausages. Erin also reviews her favourite family cookbook. In this issue I escape to the architectural splendor of Florence to bring you all the hidden gems that I have found for eating, drinking and sleeping.
Welcome to the first issue and Merry Christmas!
