Kean Business with Dr Gerald Kean
When I was approached some months ago with the idea of launching Kean Business I saw the invitation as an opportunity to try and “lift the spirits” of people around the country.
Yes, we are in a recession. Yes, there is nothing more disheartening than unemployment. Yes, there is a fear within the spirit of the country - partly as a result of consistent negative publicity and negative attitudes.
My hope with this magazine is to show that, out of recessionary times, communities can mature in a positive fashion, cooperation and relationships between people and businesses can grow and new bonds can be formed for the good of many. Out of a recession the kindness, commitment, focus and loyalty of people will flourish. Out of a recession, the foundations for future great businesses are laid.
I believe that during the Celtic Tiger many fundamental principles, which are important in any great society, were lost and/or ignored.
The people of this country are its main asset.
This is a country which has thrived over the years because of its warmth and honesty, its hospitality and generosity, and its willingness to “fight back” when required.
My hope for the magazine is as follows:
1. To put people and small businesses in touch with each other. I have had the pleasure of speaking at many networking conferences over the past twelve months. I have not been surprised at the benefit of these gatherings. People are getting in touch with people. Businesses are making contact with other businesses. There is a clear understanding that we all need to work together.
I have built my law practice over the years by believing in people. To a great extent I ignored large companies. I never believed in the theory that, “there was an easy way to make a quick buck!”
We must never lose sight of the most fundamental values in our society. I have always defined these as an efficient and proper health care system, care for the elderly and security for all citizens of the State.
I recognise the fact that unemployment is disheartening. I understand that people’s spirits can be lost when faced with no chance of work. What is worse than having no hope? Let’s try and help!
My main function and purpose in this magazine is to try and help others and get each and every one of us to help ourselves.
I am very optimistic about the future.
However, we need to stay focused and I hope this magazine will help in some way or other. Let us start by asking you to recommend to your friends, family, neighbours and/or business colleagues their support in subscribing to this publication, in the hope that we can build something positive for the future.
As part of the launch of Kean Business I am making the magazine available to every business in Ireland on a complimentary basis for 12 months. This will also include a voucher for €250 of advertising in the magazine and a pre-paid Mastercard. The cost for this entire package is just €19.99 (+ VAT) and this is merely to cover the expenses in relation to postage and packaging. You can order your subscription at 1850 50 2005 (Lo Call) or on the website at www.keanbusiness.ie
I thank you for taking time to read this publication and please do not hesitate to e-mail our offices if you have any suggestions or proposals that will improve the publication and/or assist others.
Yours in optimism,
